Energy Conservation & Carbon Reduction

CPC presents the results of its carbon reduction initiative


On the basis that global warming has been the driver of worldwide climate change in recent years,  “Energy Conservation and Carbon Reduction” has become a policy focus for Taiwan's government. As Taiwan's primary oil importer and sole natural gas provider, CPC has had a long commitment to practicing energy conservation and carbon reduction. Since 2005, every CPC business unit has been required to submit its annual greenhouse gas emission report and progress with carbon reduction projects.



CPC's carbon reduction reached 1.22 million tons – surpassing by 220,000 tons its target of one million tons.

I Stage I (2005-2009):

II Stage-II (2010-2015):
1. CPC Stage II carbon reduction target is 850,000 tons
2. 2010 reduction was 345,000 tons; 2011 was 207,000 tons
3. A total of 30 projects were completed in 2012, with 221,000 tons reduction.

V CPC's Carbon Reduction Outlook:

1. Improvement in energy efficiency: upgrade manufacturing processes, increase production and employ advanced energy conservation technology; set equipment minimum energy performance standards; and reinforce inspection and maintenance protocols. 

2. Reinforce energy integration between the manufacturing process, heating furnace and boiler; recycle waste gas (flue gas and crude hydrogen) and mid/low pressure steam to boost energy use efficiency.

3. Integrate regional energy resources and recycle wasted heat energy to reduce energy consumption.

4. Increase low-carbon energy consumption to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
